What we do

  • In an effort to address the critical gap in reporting human rights abuses in Equatorial Guinea, Nexos collects first-hand testimonies and compelling evidence to expose the systematic violation of human rights under the current regime. Nexos aims to generate periodic reports that provide a comprehensive overview of the state of human rights conditions in the country. The organisation also monitors similar situations in other authoritarian regimes around the world, and references their best practices in tackling human rights violations.

  • Nexos regularly informs political stakeholders and organisations in the US, UK, Spain, France, and the European Union about the ongoing human rights abuses in Equatorial Guinea. The organisation aims to present cases of human rights violations to specialized agencies within the United Nations, African Union, and European Union.

  • Nexos also urges the global community to establish a commission for investigating the systematic abuse of human rights in Equatorial Guinea. To exert pressure on the regime to cease these violations, it advocates for:

    • application and prosecution of sanctions, and other targeted measures;

    • asset tracing and confiscation, pertaining to the Obiang dynasty and its authoritarian regime;

    • divestment and boycotts, encouraging businesses and investors to divest from the authoritarian regime, weakening its economic stability;

    • diplomatic isolation, lobbying the international community to isolate the authoritarian regime diplomatically, limiting their international standing.

  • Nexos actively engages in informing, assisting and initiating legal actions worldwide to bring those responsible for human rights abuses in Equatorial Guinea to justice. The organisation engages and seeks pro-bono advice from top human rights experts in order to succeed in its judicial proceedings against the authoritarian regime.

  • After years of inefficient opposition to the abuses committed by the regime, Nexos strives to unite and mobilise Equatorial Guineans, both domestically and abroad, in advocating against human rights violations. The organisation frequently hosts meetings, events and collaborative initiatives to assemble all those committed to this cause.
